Optometry is a health care profession concerned with eyes and related structures, as well as vision, visual systems, and vision information processing in humans. Optometrists are healthcare professionals who provide primary vision care including sight testing and correction. They may detect eye disease or evidence of systemic abnormalities and refer to other medical specialties for treatment and co-management. In most US states optometrists are licensed to treat eye diseases, including medical therapy and in some states certain types of laser surgery. In the UK optometrists refer patients for their findings.
